A 38-year-old man remains in police custody following a hit-and-run collision in Leicester city centre that left three pedestrians with serious injuries on Saturday night.
Leicestershire Police stated that the incident took place at approximately 10:12 p.m. on Vaughan Way, near the junction with Highcross Street. A silver car struck a group of four men as they were using a pedestrian crossing. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop at the scene and drove away immediately following the impact.
Emergency medical services rushed to the location to treat the victims. Three of the men sustained severe injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for ongoing treatment. The fourth pedestrian avoided serious harm, managing to walk away from the collision without needing hospital care.
Police Arrest and Investigation
Following swift inquiries, local authorities successfully tracked down a vehicle believed to have been involved in the collision. Officers arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the incident. He is currently being held on suspicion of:
- Causing serious injury by dangerous driving
- Driving while over the prescribed alcohol limit
- Causing grievous bodily harm
Detectives are treating the event as an isolated incident. Authorities temporarily shut down Vaughan Way while forensic teams and investigators gathered evidence at the scene. The road has since been fully reopened to traffic.
