A murder investigation has been launched by Greater Manchester Police after a man in his 40s was found dead inside a property in Salford. Emergency services rushed to the scene on Tuesday, October 6, following reports of an unresponsive individual at a residential address.
Officers and medical professionals arrived at the address on Great Clowes Street in the Broughton area of Salford at approximately 7:50 p.m. BST. Despite immediate attempts by emergency crews to provide medical aid, the man was pronounced dead a short time later.
Five Men Arrested on Suspicion of Murder
In response to the incident, police detained five men, aged between 24 and 35, at the scene. All five suspects remain in police custody where they are being questioned by detectives regarding the circumstances of the man’s death.
According to local reports from the Manchester Evening News, the property at the center of the active police investigation is understood to be a house in multiple occupation (HMO). Crime scene investigators have since secured the building, placing police tape across the front entrance while forensic teams examine the interior.
Police Appeal for Public Information
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Partington of Greater Manchester Police issued a statement regarding the ongoing investigation and community concerns:
“Our priority is to establish exactly what happened and we are keeping an open mind as we work to build a full picture of the events leading up to his death. A post-mortem is taking place to establish the cause of death, which will be an important part of our investigation.”
DCI Partington also addressed local resident anxiety, assuring the public that investigators believe the incident is contained:
“We understand that an incident of this nature will understandably cause concern within the local community. At this stage, we are confident that there isn’t any wider threat to the public.”

Local officers will continue to maintain a visible presence around Great Clowes Street while house-to-house inquiries and forensic examinations continue.
