French automaker Renault has officially unveiled the E-Space Concept, an all-electric people-carrier designed to revive its iconic 1980s Espace line. The modern prototype will make its public debut on October 12, 2026, ahead of the Paris Motor Show opening to the general public on October 13, 2026.
Measuring 4.7 meters (4,700 mm) in length, the vehicle is approximately 450 mm longer than the original 1984 model and finished in a dark red shade called black rubé. The prototype channels the classic one-box monovolume silhouette while incorporating modern design elements aimed at maximizing interior roominess for families.
Design and Heritage
The name of the new concept carries a specific branding structure. The letter “E” references Renault’s “E-Tech” electrified vehicle signature, and “Space” highlights the vehicle’s generous, high-tech interior volume. The exterior design features a stubby wedge-shaped bonnet, ultra-thin A-pillars, a wraparound windshield, and broad glass areas.
At the front and rear, the vehicle incorporates wide U-shaped LED light strips that trace the body’s contours. An illuminated Renault diamond badge sits in the center of the front fascia, utilizing a pixel-like lighting effect to create a floating appearance. Additional exterior features include square running lights reminiscent of the Renault 5, camera-based side mirrors, and hidden door handles.
Platform and Powertrain Details
While full technical specifications remain limited ahead of the official press conference, reports indicate the production-intent concept utilizes Renault’s updated RGEV Medium 2.0 architecture. This modular platform supports full battery-electric configurations as well as an optional range-extender electric vehicle (EREV) setup.
Renault is systematically introducing lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery technology across its passenger car lineup to lower costs and improve the price-to-range ratio. The automaker’s broader EV strategy features cell-to-pack architectures equipped with patented Fireman Access systems for enhanced safety. Industry estimates suggest top-tier battery configurations on the platform could target driving ranges up to 500 miles.
