ESPN analyst and former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky revealed a family tragedy on Thursday, October 15, sharing the sudden death of his brother-in-law, Federico “Fed” Lascano. Lascano’s passing over the weekend left Orlovsky’s sister, Christine, and their three sons facing a challenging transition into a single-income household.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Orlovsky, 43, posted a statement about the loss. The cause of death has not been publicly announced.

An Outpouring of Support and a Public Appeal

In his social media post, Orlovsky detailed the pain his family is experiencing. He highlighted the reality his sister now faces as a solo parent to their three boys: Brayden, 18, Cameron, 16, and Colton, 11.

There are no words to describe the heartbreak of losing a husband, a partner, and a father so suddenly, Orlovsky wrote. In the midst of trying to process this devastating loss, my sister is now facing the overwhelming reality of navigating life as a solo parent and a single-income household, all while helping her boys cope with the loss of their dad.

To help alleviate the financial pressures, Orlovsky shared a link to an online fundraiser organized to assist Christine and her children. According to the GoFundMe page, Fed and Christine had been partners since their college days, and Fed served as the family’s primary financial provider.

Fundraiser Purpose and Community Response

The fundraiser aims to cover immediate everyday living expenses, bills, and groceries while the family takes time to grieve. Any remaining funds are designated for a secure trust dedicated to the educational costs and life expenses of Brayden, Cameron, and Colton.

The sports media community rallied around the Orlovsky and Lascano families. Prominent analysts, reporters, and former players offered condolences and amplified the fundraiser:

  • Josh Pate (ESPN): “Terrible story here…this is an opportunity for our people to step up and help if you’re able.”
  • Ed Werder (NFL Reporter): “So incredibly sorry for your family, Dan. Hope people will support your sister and her sons and lift your entire family in prayer as you grieve this unfathomable loss.”
  • Brian Hoyer (Former NFL Quarterback): “Sorry for your family’s loss Dan.”

Within hours of sharing the news, donations poured in rapidly, surpassing initial milestones as fans and colleagues contributed to support the family during their transition. Orlovsky expressed gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, and financial assistance directed toward his sister and nephews.
