Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has firmly ruled out Irish rock band Fontaines D.C. as a potential opening act for the band’s planned 2027 tour. His blunt rejection on social media renews a public feud between the prominent musicians that dates back to the initial announcement of the Oasis reunion in 2024.
The latest exchange unfolded on October 16, 2026, coinciding with the release of Fontaines D.C.’s latest studio album, Dopamine Chamber. When a fan on X (formerly Twitter) suggested that Gallagher consider booking the group as a support act for the upcoming Live ’27 tour, Gallagher replied directly to the user: “There [sic] not good enough they don’t have any tunes.”
Roots of the Ongoing Feud Between Oasis and Fontaines D.C.
The tension between the legendary Britpop veterans and the acclaimed post-punk outfit began during discussions surrounding the massive Oasis reunion in 2024. At the time, members of Fontaines D.C. expressed indifference or frustration regarding the massive wave of nostalgia surrounding the Gallagher brothers’ return to the stage.
Guitarist Carlos O’Connell stated that they “couldn’t really give a f***” about the reunion. Bassist Conor Deegan III expanded on those sentiments, explaining that the cultural obsession with past eras risks overshadowing forward-thinking contemporary music. “For Oasis to reform at this moment for us is really annoying,” Deegan remarked, noting that their own creative focus was entirely fixed on looking toward the future.
Those remarks immediately drew the ire of Liam Gallagher. Taking to social media at the time, Gallagher fired back at the band with characteristic vitriol, writing: “To them little spunkbubbles I’ve seen better dressed ROADIES.” He also compared their aesthetic unfavorably to the 1990s alternative rock group EMF. However, Fontaines D.C. frontman Grian Chatten quickly distanced himself from his bandmates’ comments, posting online to clarify his personal stance: “I love Oasis. This is not my opinion.”
Support Acts for the Oasis Live Tour Dates
Given the lingering friction, it comes as little surprise that Oasis looked elsewhere when curating support acts for their blockbuster stadium runs. For the UK and Ireland legs of the Oasis Live ’25 tour, the band enlisted Cast and veteran singer-songwriter Richard Ashcroft. Meanwhile, Cage The Elephant supported the group across United States dates, and Ball Park Music joined them for Australian performances.
For the newly expanded Live ’27 tour-which features sold-out stadium dates across Glasgow, Manchester, Knebworth, Slane Castle, mainland Europe, and the US-Richard Ashcroft has already been confirmed to return as support across all forthcoming shows.
Neither Fontaines D.C. nor their management team have issued a formal public response to Gallagher’s latest remarks, remaining focused instead on the promotional cycle for their critically praised new album and their upcoming television appearances.
