
BBC Radio 6 Music presenter Lauren Laverne is returning to host the sold-out 2026 Mercury Prize ceremony. The event takes place on Thursday, October 22, at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena. The awards show celebrates outstanding British and Irish albums. It returns to Tyneside following local hero Sam Fender’s 2025 victory in his home city.
Organizers confirmed that the high-profile evening features live performances from an eclectic lineup. The shortlisted acts include Dove Ellis, Florence + The Machine, JADE, Knats, Kojey Radical, Nia Archives, Olivia Dean, RAYE, and Suede. Additionally, Pulp performs on behalf of the HELP(2) album.

BBC Music serves as the official broadcast partner for the 2026 Mercury Prize. It ensures comprehensive television and radio coverage across the UK. BBC Four airs the main awards ceremony starting at 9:30 p.m. on October 22.

Mercury Prize Fringe and Community Events
Running alongside the main ceremony, the 2026 Mercury Prize Fringe is programmed by the music development agency Generator. It brings a week of cultural activities, listening parties, workshops, and live events to Newcastle.

- LNER Mini Mercury Choir: School children from across the North East perform two special tracks at Newcastle Central Station. These include JADE’s “Angel of My Dreams” and the traditional Geordie classic “The Blaydon Races.”
- Mandela Collective Collaboration: Students from Newcastle College designed and co-created official Mercury Prize pin badges to gift to shortlisted artists.
- Chefs Academy: Culinary students from Newcastle College designed the bespoke starter served to guests using local, seasonal produce.
- Artistic Tributes: Newcastle artist Sam Wood paints each shortlisted album artwork by hand in a series of oil-on-canvas gallery scenes viewable on Instagram.
- Fenwick Fan Zone: Located within The Tavern at Fenwick, this Live Lounge-style event features acoustic performances by six North East artists chosen through a Generator open call.
