A man died on Saturday afternoon after entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, located near Doncaster in northern England, according to South Yorkshire Police.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene after authorities received an urgent report at approximately 1:35 p.m. Despite the swift medical response, the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed in an official statement that the animal involved in the incident was not injured and remained securely inside the enclosure throughout the event. Following the fatal attack, park management ordered an immediate evacuation of the grounds, while police officers remained on-site late into Saturday evening to conduct a thorough investigation.
Park Officials Cooperate With Police Investigation
Authorities are currently working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the man managed to enter the restricted tiger enclosure and what triggered the fatal attack.
"We are working closely with the authorities to ascertain exactly what happened," Yorkshire Wildlife Park said in a public statement posted on its official website.
Yorkshire Wildlife Park first opened its doors to the public in 2009 and has since become a major regional attraction. Its prominent "Land of the Tigers" exhibit officially opened in 2011.
About the Land of the Tigers Exhibit
According to the park’s official documentation, the Land of the Tigers attraction is a purpose-built two-acre reserve created specifically for endangered Amur tigers, also widely known as Siberian tigers.
The habitat features modern design elements aimed at both animal welfare and visitor safety, including a 300-meter elevated wooden walkway. This walkway gives tourists a panoramic view of the big cats as they roam through naturalistic woodlands and grasslands, or swim and play in a designated waterfall pool area. Investigations into the security and protocols surrounding the enclosure remain ongoing.
