A 14-year-old boy was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries after a stabbing inside a multi-storey car park at the Manchester Arndale shopping centre. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) deployed armed officers and emergency crews to the scene on Saturday afternoon, October 17, following reports of the attack.
Emergency services received the call at approximately 3:20 p.m. to respond to the incident on the ninth floor of the Arndale Centre car park. According to local reports, the confrontation is believed to have followed a shoplifting incident at the shopping complex. Multiple police vehicles, including vans and patrol cars, were stationed on nearby streets, including High Street, Dantzic Street, and Withy Grove.
Armed Police and Forensics Deploy to the Scene
Witnesses reported a heavy emergency response, with at least two armed response units and officers from GMP’s Tactical Aid Unit present at the location. Responders used elevators to reach the upper levels of the car park, where crime scene investigators began gathering evidence.
Detective Inspector Sam Jones of GMP’s City of Manchester District CID addressed the public concern surrounding the high-profile police presence:
“This incident will understandably cause concern, but thankfully the injuries suffered by the victim are not life-threatening. Detectives at the scene are working extremely hard to process the area with Crime Scene Investigators. The car park is expected to be closed for several hours, so we ask for your understanding and patience whilst we gather evidence to bring these offenders to justice.”
Police Reassure Public as Investigation Continues
Authorities have confirmed that the victim’s injuries, while serious and consistent with a stab wound, are neither life-threatening nor life-changing. As of Saturday evening, no arrests had been made in connection with the attack, and police inquiries remain ongoing.
Officers have reiterated that the incident is believed to be isolated, presenting no wider risk to the general public. However, members of the public were strongly urged to avoid the area while forensic teams continued their work.
