Police Investigate Violent Incidents in Liverpool Centre

October 2, 2026 2 min read 0 comments

Merseyside Police have launched formal investigations into a series of separate violent crimes across the Liverpool area. This has raised concerns following a daytime stabbing and an ongoing appeal for public assistance.

The latest major incident occurred on October 1 when officers responded to reports of a violent altercation near St John’s Shopping Centre. Around 2:50 p.m., an argument between two men outside the retail complex quickly escalated into an assault involving a weapon.

A man in his 40s sustained puncture wounds to his abdomen during the daylight confrontation. Emergency services transported the victim to a local hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the assailant fled the scene on foot toward Church Street, accompanied by two women.

Investigators swiftly cordoned off the pedestrian steps leading to both the shopping centre and the historic old Radio City tower to preserve forensic evidence. As part of their ongoing inquiries, authorities released CCTV images of a man wearing a navy shirt and a black tracksuit. Investigators believe he may hold vital information to assist the probe.

Recent Violence Sparks Public Safety Concern

The October 1 stabbing follows closely behind another violent episode in the city centre. Just days prior on September 26, officers responded to a violent glassing attack inside a local McDonald’s restaurant.

Local authorities are reviewing security footage from both locations to determine if any patterns connect the recent outbreaks of violence. Community leaders and police representatives have reiterated their commitment to maintaining public safety throughout busy commercial zones.

Police Appeal for Information

Merseyside Police are urging anyone who witnessed either incident or possesses relevant mobile phone or dashcam footage to come forward immediately.

Individuals with details regarding the St John’s Shopping Centre stabbing are encouraged to contact the Merseyside Police social media desk via X or Facebook by messaging @MerPolCC and referencing log 525 of October 1.
