An international flight from Frankfurt to New Delhi experienced severe security delays on October 14, 2026, after a suspected hijack signal prompted authorities to divert an Air India aircraft to Jaipur. Flight AI-2030, a Boeing 787-9 carrying 293 passengers and 13 crew members, landed safely at Jaipur International Airport at 9:35 a.m. following the activation of an emergency transponder code.

The aircraft was immediately directed to an isolation bay where security personnel, including members of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), thoroughly inspected the plane and screened passenger luggage. Authorities later confirmed that the alert was completely false, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) launched an official investigation into the incident.

Flight Diversion and Emergency Response

According to initial reports, Ahmedabad Air Traffic Control received a brief emergency signal from the aircraft around 9:00 a.m. The pilot reportedly activated Squawk 7500, an internationally recognized aviation transponder code used discreetly to signal unlawful interference or a hijacking. Around 9:10 a.m., authorities at the Delhi airport’s war room decided to divert the flight to Jaipur as a precautionary measure.

Upon landing at 9:35 a.m., the plane taxied to an isolation bay. In line with standard aviation security protocols, all passengers and crew members were safely evacuated and taken to an emergency holding area at the terminal. Both pilots were de-boarded, and a team from the National Security Guard (NSG) in Delhi was placed on standby.

Airline and Airport Statements

Air India issued an official statement confirming that flight AI-2030 was diverted due to a perceived security concern. The airline noted:

The aircraft landed safely, and the relevant security agencies carried out the necessary checks before clearing the aircraft and crew. All passengers were disembarked, underwent security checks, and have since reboarded the aircraft. The flight is expected to continue its journey to Delhi shortly.

The airline expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to travelers and emphasized that the safety and security of passengers and crew remain its highest priority. The Jaipur airport, managed and operated by the Adani Group, also reported that the situation remained entirely normal throughout the procedure, advising families and relatives not to panic.

Investigation Into the Transponder Signal

Following comprehensive safety checks, security agencies verified that the aircraft systems were normal and that no actual threat existed. Passengers subsequently reboarded the aircraft to resume their journey to Delhi.

The DGCA and relevant aviation authorities are currently investigating the exact circumstances that led to the activation of the Squawk 7500 code. Officials are examining whether the signal was triggered by a technical malfunction or human error.
