Seattle Faces Friday Rain and Wind Before Cooler Weekend

October 9, 2026 2 min read 0 comments

Rain, gusty winds, and falling temperatures are expected across Seattle and the Puget Sound region as a dynamic frontal system moves into Washington. The National Weather Service forecasts widespread morning showers followed by scattered afternoon rain, clearing the way for drier and sunnier conditions over the weekend.

According to meteorologist Maddie Kristell, rainfall totals in the immediate Seattle area are projected to reach about one-tenth of an inch, though localized variations are expected. A possible convergence zone near SeaTac could spark additional heavier showers, while the most intense rainfall is slated for the north interior and the northern Cascades.

Gusty Winds and Potential Travel Impacts

As the front tracks through western Washington, winds will significantly strengthen. The National Weather Service and regional forecasters anticipate typical wind gusts ranging from 20 to 30 mph across much of the urban area.

However, more robust gusts of up to 45 mph are possible in exposed locations, particularly along the Strait of Juan de Fuca and parts of the north interior. Winds across Puget Sound are expected to sustain speeds between 25 and 30 mph, potentially impacting the Friday afternoon commute and requiring residents to secure loose outdoor items.

Transition to a Cooler, Drier Weekend

Conditions are expected to improve steadily Friday evening as the weather system pushes east. Lingering clouds and isolated showers may persist around the central Puget Sound region during the late afternoon before giving way to clearing skies overnight.

  • Friday Night: Mostly clear skies with overnight lows dropping near 49 degrees.
  • Saturday: Partly sunny conditions with daytime highs reaching around 62 degrees.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny and pleasant, providing a calm and dry conclusion to the weekend.

While the weekend offers a welcome respite from Friday’s wet weather, residents should enjoy the sunshine while it lasts, as unsettled weather patterns are projected to return early next week.
